Read on for a preview of other important city happenings, as well as chances to learn more about progress with city priorities like fiscal year 2025-26 budget development, investments occurring throughout our neighborhoods, and so much more.
I also want to shout out public employees as part of Public Services Week happening May 4 through 10 and their many contributions to Beaverton. Thank you all for your part in making our city such a special place to call home.

Utility Rate Public Hearing is June 17
Earlier this year, we announced rate increases as part of a ten-year investment to improve our community’s water infrastructure, ensuring that your water is safe and clean.
A public hearing to consider these changes is scheduled for the City Council meeting on Tuesday, June 17 at 6 p.m. If approved, the new rates will go into effect July 1, 2025.
The proposed bill changes include:
- New uniform water rates for multi-family homes and nonresidential customers
- New tiered water rates for residential customers that establishes different water prices based on consumption to encourage equity and conservation
- New sewer and stormwater rates for all customers.

Celebrating Public Services Recognition Week: Honoring our Commitment to the Beaverton Community
Each year during the first full week of May, communities across the United States celebrate Public Service Recognition Week. This year, from May 5–11 the City of Beaverton recognizes the outstanding contributions made by city staff.
Public Service Recognition Week was established in 1985 by the U.S. Office of Personnel Management to honor the individuals who serve our nation at the federal, state, county, and local levels. Over the past four decades, it has grown into a national celebration of the essential roles public servants play in strengthening communities and ensuring government services are delivered efficiently and equitably.
This year, the theme for our Beaverton Public Services Recognition Week is “We do. For you.”
From maintaining parks and roads, to ensuring public safety, supporting small businesses, and providing inclusive programs that bring neighbors together, the services our staff provides are the foundation of what makes our city safe, livable, and thriving.
Whether our staff is behind the scenes keeping the fleet running, overseeing operations, or working in engineering and planning; on the front lines of customer service with permitting, passports, police records, utility billing; or out in the community with code compliance, police patrols, field inspections, landscaping, or traffic signal maintenance, our staff’s work truly makes a difference in the community.
We also honor police officers during National Police Week happening Sunday, May 11 to Saturday May 17 to observe law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty.
We also want to recognize National Public Works Week taking place from Sunday, May 18 through Saturday, May 24, to acknowledge public works professionals who serve our community every day.

Neighborhood Association Committee Spotlight
Welcome to the Neighborhood Association Committee Member Spotlight! Each month, we highlight a different Neighborhood Association Committee member to celebrate them and help everyone get to know each other a little better. Thanks to all our amazing volunteers, for the wonderful work you do to engage our communities!
This month we are featuring Sherry Powell Moore, from the Denney Whitford/Raleigh West Neighborhood Association Committee.

How/when did you first get involved as a volunteer with the City of Beaverton?
In 2013, McKay Elementary School asked for a volunteer to attend a Neighborhood Association Committee meeting. I attended and subsequently worked on developing a summer backpack program that provided books to add to the students’ personal libraries. I’ve been with the Neighborhood Association Committee since then.
In what City of Beaverton volunteer roles are/were you involved?
I am currently on the city’s Traffic Commission in addition to serving as co-chair on the Denney Whitford/Raleigh West Neighborhood Association Committee.
What’s been your favorite Neighborhood Association Committee project/event(s)?
I have enjoyed the Picnic in the Park events, but LOVED the Summer Book Program most, so far!
What are three words that best describe you?
Enthusiastic, Compassionate, Sincere.
What’s something about you (a fun fact) that not many people would know about you?
I am an avid gardener!
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I enjoy reading and listening to music in my spare time.
Thank you, Sherry, for sharing with us about yourself and your experience volunteering in Beaverton!

Climate Action Survey Period Extended to May 25
In 2019, the city adopted its first climate action plan to outline the actions the city and our local partners can take to reduce local emissions and prepare for climate change impacts. Now, we’re proceeding with an update of our climate action plan to create a clear, measurable path forward that reflects current community priorities for the benefit of all of Beaverton.
We’re asking for your input to help us understand community priorities as we create this new guide for how the city will take action. In thanks, participants can choose to enter a giveaway for prizes from local businesses in Beaverton.

Small Steps Lead to a More Sustainable Future
From reducing waste and conserving water to rethinking daily habits, every step makes a difference in supporting our environment.
One simple step: skip the pre-rinse.
Pre-rinsing dishes before using the dishwasher can waste gallons of clean water each cycle. Modern dishwashers are designed to handle food residue without pre-washing, making it more efficient to scrape, load, and run. By changing this one habit, households can reduce water use, lower energy consumption, and support regional conservation efforts.
For best results, ensure your dishwasher filter is clean and spray arms are clear. Small changes at home contribute to a more sustainable future!

Recycle Right: Choose Reusable
Plastic bags, wrap, and film do not belong in your home recycling bin. These materials can jam sorting equipment at recycling facilities and cause costly delays. Instead, bring clean, dry plastic film to participating grocery store drop-off bins—or better yet, reduce use when possible. Keeping the right items in your bin helps ensure everything gets properly recycled in Beaverton.

From Our Friends at Washington County
Visit the Washington County Microtransit Pilot Project online open house and take the survey through 5 p.m. May 30.
Microtransit is an innovative public transportation approach that Washington County and Ride Connection plan to launch in early 2026 in the South Cooper Mountain, River Terrace and Progress Ridge communities. This service will help fill gaps in the transit network for the area.
Riders will be able to use an app, website or phone call to schedule a ride on a multi-passenger shuttle van that picks up and drops off riders where they choose within a specified boundary.
Help us decide the service area boundaries and hours of operation for the service.
